You know how every once in a while you stumble across a unique little local business that has been there ‘forever’ but for some reason you had never been aware of it or visited it? The very same thing happened to me a little while ago and I am thrilled! A girlfriend asked me to tea and instead of suggesting our usual tea house, she said we needed to check out this quaint little place downtown. To make a long story short (which isn’t always my forte), this charming, quaint tea shop not only serves up organic loose leaf tea but also tea lattes with…are you ready for this… in-house made almond milk! Score! I love me my tea but throw in some homemade almond milk and I’m yours!
Since that tea changing day I seem to be seeing the word ‘mylk’ in many a place (to denote the non dairy version) and maybe I’ve been under a rock, but it made me chuckle a little! We are not a dairy free family, however we definitely like to include ‘mylk’ in our diet. Store bought varieties though, should be avoided because they contain carrageenan, a thickener that is all kinds of yuck. So even if you think you’re doing yourself a favor by ordering a latte with almond, rice or soy milk, you really need to read Why You Should Avoid ALL Products with THIS Ingredient to fully understand the health implications of carrageenan.
So toss the store bought, save time, money and your health by making this 30 Second Cheater Nut Milk. You’ll be stoked you did!
- 2 cups water
- 2 heaping tbsp almond butter (make your own almond butter or seed butter)
- 2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
- 1/8 tsp vanilla powder or 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- Twirl on high for 30 seconds and voila!
- This milk is equally delicious whether you use nut or seed butter 🙂
